DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also ruling Awami League president, on Saturday categorically said, in an interview, killer Faruq-Rashid admitted that they had no other way without killing Bangabandhu to oust him from the government.
“Ziaur Rahman tacitly complied with the killing and hinted about helping them when they sought his support. It proves that Zia was also involved with the conspiracy of the murder of Bangabandhu,” she said.
The premier came up with the allegation while addressing a discussion meeting to commemorate the National Mourning Day, the 39th death anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Sheikh Hasina also said killers smirched Bengalese on August 15 and made the winning nation around the world as killers.
She also added: “This was not a murder of an individual. Local and foreign enemies tried to destroy the freedom of Bengalese through this murder.”
The vested quarter always wanted to tread Bangladeshi people, she added.
AL president also said Ziaur Rahman did not allow her and Rehana to return Bangladesh after killing their father in 1975.
Presidium member of the party Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury presided over the meeting at Bangabandhu International Conference Center at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in city.
