Bangladesh has deployed 430 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel to ensure security at 2,857 Durga Puja mandaps across the country, including the capital Dhaka and sensitive border regions, ahead of the Hindu community’s largest annual festival.

According to a press release issued on Saturday (Sept 27) by BGB spokesperson Shariful Islam, 1,411 of the mandaps under security coverage are located within eight kilometres of the border and include 15 in the hill tracts.

The remaining 1,446 are situated outside border areas, among them 441 in Dhaka, Narayanganj and Gazipur city corporations, 694 in Chattogram metropolitan area, Raozan and Rangunia, and 311 in other districts.

To maintain law and order during the festivities, BGB has also set up 24 base camps nationwide.

Special patrols are being carried out in border zones, alongside strengthened intelligence surveillance, to prevent any untoward incidents.

The statement reaffirmed that BGB remains committed to safeguarding national peace, security and sovereignty.

It added that the force is working in close coordination with local administrations and other law enforcement agencies to ensure devotees can celebrate Durga Puja in a safe and peaceful environment.
