DHAKA: The physical condition of historic Language Movement veteran Abdul Matin deteriorated.

The 88-year old language veteran is now in unconscious condition at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in city.

Doctors said Matin might be gone under operation at any moment if necessary despite his unfitness.

According to the doctors, the language movement veteran may stay at the ICU till Wednesday.

Abdul Matin was first admitted to the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases following a stroke and later shifted to the BSMMU on Tuesday morning.

A medical board led by BSMMU Neurosurgery Head Dr Abdullah is observing his condition.

Regarding Matin’s present condition, BSMMU Registrar Saidur Rahman told banglanews that the Language Movement activist is still in critical condition.

He added: “But, he is not in fully unconscious…he often responds.”

However, the medical board has already taken all sorts of preparation for the surgery.

They had already taken the approval from the wife of Abdul Matin to take him in the operation theater.

On the other hand, doctors are not allowing anyone to visit Abdul Matin at the ICU except his wife, but, information minister Hasanul Haq Inu visited the veteran.
