DHAKA: Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) started investigation against Zamir Telecom on the charge of irregularities and corruption.

On June 18, ACC took decision to investigate various irregularities including tax evasion.

Following the matter, ACC asked Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) to submit documents in this regard.

Two ACC teams have already visited BTCL office.

A reliable ACC source said that Naufal Zamir and Nawsher Zamir, sons of BNP standing committee member also former Speaker Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar would be summoned next month.

ACC commissioner Sahabuddin Chuppu told banglanews that following the specific allegation, ACC has decided to investigate the activities of the company.

Operated from UK by Sircar’s son Naufal, Zamir Telecom, an international carrier company, is engaged in sending calls from different European countries to Bangladesh.

Taking part in an international tender in 2007, the company got the work to send calls to Bangladesh. The signaling link of Zamir Telecom was snapped in 2010 as it did not pay the dues.

According to the ACC complaint, it was seen that Zamir Telecom has to pay Tk 3,702,457,841 to BTCL. 

On the other hand, ACC got another complain against the company about financing to militancy.

ACC deputy director Jatan Kumar Roy is investigating case.
