Navy Warship Catches Fire in Ctg

CHITTAGONG: A fire broke out at Bangladesh Navy Warship BNS Umar Farooq due to electric short circuit at Esha Khan Base on Tuesday afternoon.

Captain Nazmul Haq told banglanews that the fire originated from an electric short circuit at kitchen of the ship 2:00pm.

Fire Service Assistant Director Mohammad Yahia said two fire-fighting units with naval personnel, doused the blaze within 20 minutes.

No damage occurred in the fire, he added.

The ship was built in Britain, and served with the Royal Navy for 18 years, before being sold to Bangladesh, arriving there on 27 March 1977.

The ship, which is able to carry 200 crews, is now being used to train sailors besides supporting anti-piracy and anti-smuggling operations.
