Snakes bite 50 more in Meherpur

MEHERPUR: Villagers are passing days in fear as snakes bit over 50 people in Madandanga village under Sadar upazila of the district in two days (Sunday and Monday).

The fear compelled the people to leave home and they took shelter at their relatives’ house in neighboring area. Meanwhile, district health and local ojha asked the people not to be afraid of snakes.

Local Union Parisad member Mizanur Rahman Milon told banglanews: “The snakes bit some 50 men and women in last two days (Sunday and Monday).”

People are now taking the local treatment by the ojha (who treats snake-biting patience using native ways).

Villager Sadek Ali said, “Usually, the nuisance of snake increases this time every year, but this year the numbers of snake seem more than earlier.”

“And the only way to treat the victim is the local Ojha,” he said.

A media team was sent a medical team by the district Health Department, district Civil Surgeon Dr Ismail Hossain told banglanews.

Ismail urged the villagers not to take local treatment as it may bring many problems in future, including mutilation

Asking the snake-biting patience to take at treatment at the hospital, he said, “Plenty of vaccines are available in the Meherpur General Hospital.”
