HC clears foreign TV channels in BD

DHAKA: The High Court on Tuesday cleared way for government-approved distributors to telecast foreign television channels in the country by rejecting the writ petition seeking its directives to ban on telecasting son Indian channels in Bangladesh.

An HC vocation bench of Justice Sheikh Hasan Arif and Justice Abu Taher Mohammad Saifur Rahman rejected the petition.

On August 21, the court sought documents of the license and financial contracts on telecasting Indian channels. 

Advocate Abdul Matin Khashru, also Bangladeshi agent of Indian Star Group, submitted the document on Tuesday.

On August 7, lawyer of Supreme Court Syeda Shahin Ara Laily filed the writ petition.

On August 3, Ekhlas Uddin sent a legal notice to the government seeking its initiative for an end of the telecast of Indian TV channels in Bangladesh within 24 hours.

He said India doesn’t permit to broadcast Bangladeshi Channels there. But Bangladesh permit to telecast Indian channels which deteriorated the culture of our country.

In the statement, Ekhlas said the dresses named after a character, Pakhi, of serial ‘Bojhe Na Se Bojhe Na’ takes some lives in Bangladesh ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr.
