Noni-Taher to be grilled at safe-home

DHAKA: International Crime Tribunal-1 (ICT) permitted state prosecutors to quiz Ataur Rahman Noni and Obaidul Haque Taher of Netrokona for one day each at safe-home.

The three-member tribunal, headed by Justice M Enayetur Rahim, passed the order on Thursday.

Earlier, prosecutor Sabina Yasmin Munni appealed for two days to grill them for their alleged involvement in crimes against humanity during country’s War of Independence in 1971.

Taher’s lawyer Tariqul Islam stood against the appeal.

The ICT also ordered to submit the investigation progress report on them on September 14.

On August 12, ICT-1 passed an arrest warrant against Noni and Taher. Then, Netrokona Model Thana police arrested former footballer Ataur Rahman Noni, 58, from municipality’s Moktarpara area and businessman Obaidul Haque Taher, 55, from Teribazar.

Later, they were sent to the ICT in Dhaka.

On August 13, they were asked to be sent to jail after their appearance before the ICT-1.

In 2010, Freedom Fighter Ali Reza Kanchan filed the case against 12 including the duo for their alleged involvement in crime against humanity.
