Over 1 lakh people marooned in Tangail

TANGAIL: Flood situation worsened in the last 24 hours in the district as Jamuna and Dhaleshwari rivers water have been flowing over 41 centimeters of the danger level.

People in around 300 villages of Tangail Sadar, Bhuapur, Gopalpur, Kalihati, Nagarpur and Delduar upazilas have become marooned on Friday, reported banglanews correspondent.

Moreover, crops of around 30,000 hectors land also went under water, informed deputy commissioner’s office.

People are living in a sub-human condition due to shortage of food and drinking water.

Seven villages have already been destroyed by the erosion of Jamuna River and another eight villages are under the threat of destruction as the erosion continues.

Tangail Deputy Commissioner Mahbub Hossain told banglanews that they already have distributed more than 100 metric tones rice among the flood-affected people.

We are trying to send relief to other flood affected areas quickly, he added.
