DHAKA: Building on the New York Climate Summit momentum, the fourth Global Green Growth Forum (3GF), scheduled to take place on October 20-21, in Copenhagen, is gathering top leaders from all regions of the world to accelerate green solutions and follow-up action.

The 3GF is where governments join hands with leading businesses, investors, cities, international organizations and civil society to engage in knowledge exchange and 11 strategic partnerships, says a press release.

Dr. Atiur Rahman, Governor of Bangladesh Bank is taking part in the summit along with Iftekhar Enayetullah, Co-Founder & Director of Waste Concern Bangladesh, a social business enterprise promoting waste recycling and environmental improvements.

The release also said, “250-300 top leaders are expected at 3GF, hosted by Denmark’s Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt.

The leaders will bring with them enormous potential for change. They can put ideas into global action – at scale and at speed.”

This year’s Forum will focus on changing consumption and production patterns and how to stimulate sustainable lifestyles for billions of future middle class consumers, the release added.

The Danish Minister for Foreign Affairs Martin Lidegaard says, “It is crucial to counter the current pressure on our planet.  That is why Denmark is pushing for resource efficiency and green growth. 3GF is a unique platform for this with its focus on practical solutions through partnerships between national authorities, businesses, civil society and international organizations.”

The Danish Minister for Trade and Development Cooperation, Mogens Jensen said financing is necessary to accelerate a green transition.

He also said, “Many of the solutions are already at hand - for instance on energy efficiency or turning waste into energy.”

The 11 strategic partnerships that will be launched or leveraged at 3GF 2014, address the challenges of ensuring sustainable consumption and production for generations to come.

Facilitating partnerships between key public and private actors is the cornerstone of 3GF’s work throughout the year.  3GF has developed a unique model that makes it a leading platform for promoting the transition to a green economy.

3GF was initiated by Denmark in 2011 together with Korea and Mexico. Since then China, Kenya, Qatar and Ethiopia have joined the platform.
