Tarique sued for sedition

JESSORE: A sedition case was filed against BNP senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman for making derogatory remarks on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Jessore district Awami League unit organizing secretary Abzal Hossain filed the lawsuit with the district court on Sunday morning.

District Senior Judicial Magistrate Abu Ibrahim fixed November 13 to pass order taking the case into cognizance.

According to the case statement, on November 5, Tarique, elder son of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, at the discussion in East London said Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is the killer of pro-independence people of the country.

Terming Sheikh Mujib a Pakbandhu, he said Sheikh Mujibur always thought that Pakistan was safe (for him) though the people of Bangladesh see him as a hero.

Plaintiff told banglanews that Tarique is trying to misguide the nation by giving false speeches.
