DHAKA: The Myanmar government decided to take 2,415 Rohingyas back initially from Bangladesh within two months.

The decision came from the Eighth Bangladesh-Myanmar Secretary Level Meeting at Foreign Ministry in the capital on Sunday.

On behalf of Bangladesh, foreign secretary M Shahidul Haque and from Myanmar deputy foreign minister U Thant Kyaw led respective delegations.

Shahidul Haque said, “A committee will be formed to justify the issue. But the authorities primarily agreed to take 2,415 Rohingyas from Bangladesh.”

He also said, “The Myanmar government took around 2.30 lakh Rohingyas in 2005. Since then, the procedure became closed for long time. Now, we resume the process of transfer.”

The secretary said the meeting was fruitful and the bi-lateral matters would be under a framework.

He also said the foreign minister of Myanmar will visit Bangladesh though the scheduled of the visit have not fixed yet. During the visit, the delegation will ink several deals and renews with Bangladesh including that of prisoner exchange.

A delegation of Bangladesh will also visit Myanmar for further discussion about the Rohingyas exchange, he added.
