DHAKA: Counting votes of by-elections to the different posts of six Upazila Parishads across the country underway from Sunday afternoon as voting ended peacefully.

However, BNP boycotted the by-polls in Feni’s Phulgazi upazila while the rest are Atpara Upazila of Netrakona district, Digholia of Khulna, Mehendiganj of Barisal, Ranisankail of Thakurgaon and Jakiganj of Sylhet.

Banglanews local correspondents said the polls, started from 8:00am, continued till to 4:00pm without any break.

Sources told that huge police personnel, along with members of other law enforcing agencies were deployed in all the polling stations to maintain law-and-order situation.

Besides, striking force were also on guard in the election areas to maintain polls-friendly environment.
