Keraniganj 4-Murder: Mastermind among 6 arrested

DHAKA: Dhaka district police, in separate drives, arrested six people from Keraniganj, Gazipur and Munshiganj early Friday for their alleged involvement in the gruesome killing of four people of a family in South Keraniganj, on outskirts of the capital.

The detainees are Sumon, mastermind of the killing, Joni, and four of their associates Nasir, Afsana, Sumon and Mojid.

Of them, Sumon was nabbed from his house at Mirzapur Bazar in Gazipur and Joni from his Kathalbaria house of Sreepur upazila in Munshiganj.

Habibur Rahman, Dhaka district Superintendent of Police, said deceased Saju had a conflict with Sumon over distribution of looted motorbike, gold and alleged extra marital affairs with Sumon’s wife. Following the dispute, Saju and his family members might have been murdered by Sumon’s gang.

Bashir Uddin, younger brother of victim Saju, filed a murder case with South Keraniganj thana on Thursday night accusing six unnamed people, the SP added.

In primary investigation, the detainees admit their involvement in the brutal murder, he added.

Earlier on Wednesday, police recovered the four bodies --a couple and their two kids—from the house in South Keraniganj.

The deceased were identified as Raju Begum, his wife Ronzi Begum and their two children Sanjida and Imran, hailed form Panchagarh district.
