5 killed in Madaripur road crash

MADARIPUR: Five people, including a minor boy and four college students, were killed in a road accident on Dhaka-Khulna highway in Shibchar upazila of the district on Saturday morning.

The deceased were identified as Shakil, nine months, Imran Hossain, 18, Sur Paul, 18, Rehena Aktar, 18 and Halima, 18.

Locals said that a Dhaka-bound passenger bus hit a van in Purba Sonyashir Char area around 10:00am, leaving Imran Hossain, Rehena and Halima dead on the spot and critically injured two others.

Later, the injured were sent to Shibchar Upazila Health Complex and shifted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital where duty doctor declared Sur Paul and Shakil dead.

Following the accident, agitated people vandalized 10 vehicles which created five-kilometer-long traffic jam.

Shibchar Thana Officer-in-Charge Abdus Sattar confirmed the matter to banglanews.
