KHULNA: At least 40 shanties of a slum were burnt to ashes in a fire in Natun Bazar area of the city early Sunday.
Fire Service and Civil Defense deputy director Golam Rahman told banglanews that the fire originated from an electric short circuit at a house owned by one Abdur Rahman around 12:00pm and soon engulfed other houses in Char Slum of the area.
Fire fighters doused the flame after a frantic effort for couple of hours.
40 houses were turned into ashes; however, no casualty reported, Golam added.
On information, Khulna City Corporation mayor Moniruzzaman Moni visited the spot.
