LAXMIPUR: An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of police was killed by a bullet from his own gun while he was on duty near Roypur Thana of the district early Friday.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Jalil, son of late Aiyub Ali of Haribhallabpur village of Begumganj upazila of Noakhali.
He was serving at district police lines arms branch.
Locals said Jalil was on duty in the area as the locals’ of the upazila staged a demonstration here on Thursday night protesting random load shedding.
Later, he sat in a tea stall putting the gun beside him as law enforcers earlier brought the situation under control around 12:45am.
Suddenly, Jalil was hit by the bullet in the chest.
He was whisked off to the Laxmipur Sadar Hospital where the duty doctors declared him dead.
Laxmipur District Superintendent of police Shah Mizan Shafiur Rahman said to banglanews that they can not say anything before investigation.
