DHAKA: The fate of Abdul Latif Siddique as membership at Jatiya Sangshad (JS) will be decided finally after Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury arrives home.

Chief Whip ASM Feroz made the assertion while talking to journalists at JS Media Center on Tuesday.

He said, “There is no specific explanation on whether he (Latif Siddique) will lose his membership of parliament or not. The speaker will express her opinions after talking to the experts when she arrives home.”

Whips Ataur Rahman Atik, Iqbalur Rahim and Mahbub Ara Gini were among others present at the press meet.

Shirin, who traveled for Cameroon to attend the 60th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in Cameroon there, will return home on October 21.

On Sunday, the government issued a gazette notification discharging former post telecommunications and ICT minister Abdul Latif Siddique from his duty.

Ruling AL also removed him from the party presidium and suspended his primary membership of the party in a meeting.

On September 29, Latif Siddique made derogatory remarks on hajj and Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and Tabligh Jamaat that sparked protest and mixed reactions home and abroad.

Latif Siddique said he was against hajj and Tablig and that the hajj is wastage of valuable money and manpower.
