KHULNA: The ninth boat race to be organized by Khulna Nagar Samajik-Sangskritik Kendra in cooperation with country’s largest mobile-phone operator Grameenphone, will be held on river Rupsa in Khulna on Saturday.
The organisers will allow only women and children to enjoy the race commonly known as ‘Nouka Baich’ from Rupsa Bridge and will also monitor the number of the audience on the rooftops of old buildings by the river.
Khulna district information office deputy director M Javed Iqbal told banglanews on Tuesday noon.
He said a preparation meeting, chaired by Khulna Deputy Commissioner Anis Mahmud, was held to make the boat race successful.
The meeting also discussed on the safety and security measures regarding the race.
Speedboats of Coast Guards and boats with the VIP guests will move in a controlled way during the race, he added.
The participants have to submit their pictures and photocopy of their national ID cards to the organisers.
The event will also feature a cultural program at 9:00pm on the day.
However, Khulna Nagar Samajik-Sangskritik Kendra has regularly been organizing traditional festivals including Baishakhi mela for the city dwellers.
