JS body for amendment of anti-dowry act

DHAKA: Parliamentary standing committee on women and children affairs ministry recommended amending of the Dowry Prohibition Act with a view to annihilating child marriage, dowry and other social malice. 

Besides, the committee also suggested creating mass awareness among common people of the country.

The recommendations came from a meeting of the parliamentary committee held at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Thursday.

Members of the committee Mohammad Mozammel Hossain, Mahbub Ara Begum Gini, Nasrin Jahan Ratna, Manwara Begum and Fazilatun Nesa attended the meeting.

Chairman of the committee Rebecca Momin presided over the meeting.

Women and children affairs secretary and women affairs department director general, among others, were present at the meeting.

The committee also congratulated Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury and Saber Hossain Chowdhury MP as they were elected chairperson and president of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) and Inter-parliamentary Union (IPU) respectively.

The committee also recommended extending the date of the program to complete the ministry’s e-service project.

Besides, a special monitoring on ‘Jayita’ project was also recommended at the meeting.
