DHAKA: The government on Saturday deployed 10 platoons Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members in the city to avert any untoward situation ahead of Sunday’s hartal called by the Islamic parties.
Sources said the BGB members, including other law enforcement agency personnel, have already started patrolling the important intersections and offices in the city from 7:00pm.
BGB Public Relations Officer Mohsin Reza confirmed the matter to banglanews.
He also said the BGB members would continue their patrolling from Saturday evening to Sunday evening in ensuring the security of secretariat, Gono Bhaban, hospitals and other important offices, including the Sangsad Bhaban.
Earlier, the Islamic parties called the countrywide daylong hartal for October 26 demanding the arrest of Latif Siddique for his “derogatory” remarks over hajj, Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) and Tabligh Jamaat in New York on September 28 (NYT).
