'All verdicts to be executed'

DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday categorically said all the verdicts of war crimes trial would be executed gradually during her current regime.

“The trial of the war crimes is people’s demand and it is our pledges to nation. We will execute all the verdicts to make the country free from stigma,” she said.

The premier, also ruling Awami League president, was addressing a grand rally organized marking Jail Killing Day at Suhrawardy Udyan in the city.

She added: “It was our commitment to the nation to execute the verdicts of the war crimes trials. We will execute all the verdicts and rid the nation of the stigma.”

Sheikh Hasina also strongly criticized late President Ziaur Rahman for “misdeeds” during his regime.

“After assuming power forcibly, President Ziaur Rahman had killed thousands of Army personnel and reinstated Bangabandhu killers in power,” she said.

Late president Zia also had brought back former Jamaat-e-Islami chief Ghulam Azam to the country and rehabilitated in politics.
      
Sheikh Hasina said, “Ziaur Rahman awarded killers of Bangabandhu and four national leaders appointing them in different embassies, sheltered killer Rashid.”

She also claimed that “not only Zia but also HM Ershad awarded killers, gave chance to Colonel Faruk to join his Jatiya Party”.

She added: “Ziaur Rahman had assumed power illegally by killing and torturing.”  

Sheikh Hasina also claimed that the then BNP-led four-party alliance government involvement in enormous corruption. “Khaleda’s son Tarique Rahman created parallel government by Hawa Bhaban,” she said.

BNP chairperson sees all the things illegal because her (Khaleda) husband assumed power illegally, she added.

Regarding BNP’s movement, she also asked BNP to give up accompany of war criminals and militants.
