COMILLA: A Sub-Inspector of Detective Branch (DB) of Police was shot at head from point-blank range by the district’s top hijacker Zira Sumon around 11:45am on Thursday.

The injured was identified as SI Firoz. Another DB SI Shahidul Islam confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Local people rushed SI Firoz to Moon Hospital where he was undergoing a surgery till the filing of the report.

However, SI Firoz will be shifted to Dhaka for better treatment, SI Shahidul Islam added.

Witnesses said SI Firoz went to detain Zira Sumon at Jhautala area in the morning as several hijacking cases were filed against him.

Sumon then snatched the pistol of SI Firoz and shot him at his head from point-blank range and fled the scene, they added.

However, police are conducting drives to held Sumon, SI Shahidul added.
