DHAKA: Attorney General Mahbubey Alam on Thursday categorically said it is the rights of Appellate Divisions to decide whether the judgement against death convict Kamaruzzaman was summary or full.
The chief law officer of the state made the observation while talking to journalists at his Supreme Court office.
He also said his earlier comment about execution of the death penalty to Jamaat leader Kamaruzzaman was personal opinion. He said, “The death penalty can be executed even after summary judgement.”
The attorney general further said International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) passed death sentence to Kamaruzzaman and the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court upheld the verdict in an appeal filed by the defendant.
He also said it is enough for the jail authorities to know the matter. “There is nothing to see in detail here,” he said.
On Monday (November 3), the Supreme Court Appellate Division upheld the death sentence against Jamaat assistant secretary general Kamaruzzaman.
Defendant said they would file review petition after getting the full verdict while the prosecution said the verdict can be executed as there is no chance for reviewing the judgement.
