Fire doused at Dhaka Central Jail

DHAKA: Fire fighters doused a devastating a fire after one and half-an-hours of fanatic efforts since it broke out at a blanket factory inside Dhaka Central Jail in the city on Thursday.

Fire Service and Civil Defense (FSCD) sources said the fire originated at the factory godown around 4:20pm and soon engulfed the adjacent area.

Eight fire service units from the FSCD Headquarters and nearby Lagbagh and Polashi stations rushed to the spot and extinguished the flame. 

Banglanews Team members said that the fire had been doused around 6:00pm but huge smoke had been emitting from the ashes.

Inspector General of Prison Brigadier General Syed Iftekhar Uddin visited the spot after the fire incident.

He said, however, the prisoners were safe as they have been kept behind the wall where the fire caught.

Though, the prisoners have been shifted to the nearest safe place and they will be returned after the situation will come under control.

Earlier, FSCD director (operation) Major Shakil confirmed about the fire incident to banglanews team at the spot.
