DHAKA: Law Minister Anisul Haque on Saturday categorically said Jamaat-e-Islami assistant secretary general, war crimes convict Muhammad Kamaruzzaman, would be executed after the copy of verdict reaches to the jail authorities.
The minister told the media while attending a book launching ceremony as chief guest at a city hotel on Saturday evening.
He said that the copy of a short verdict is needed to execute the convict. As per law, the verdict cannot be executed prior this.
In response to another question, he said, “So far I know the jail authorities are yet to inform Kamaruzzaman formally about the verdict of his death penalty.”
Earlier on Monday, Supreme Court upheld the death sentence given to Kamaruzzaman for his crimes against humanity during the country's war of independence in 1971.
