COX’S BAZAR: Sea robbers abducted 50 fishermen and took five engine-run fishing boats from various estuaries of the Bay of Bengal sometimes Friday night and Saturday morning.
Robbers also robbed three other boats injuring 30 others.
Organizing Secretary of Cox’s Bazar Fishing Boat Owners’ Association Mostaq Ahmed confirmed the matter to banglanews.
Mostaq said robbers took away some 50 fishermen with five engine-run fishing boats--FB Shah Mazidia, FB Faria, FB Lily, FB Allahr Dan and FB Suma.
The robber also looted three other boats--FB Nahida, FB Al Samar and FB Jubida--and injured 30 other fishermen, he added.
Meanwhile, boat owners claimed the robbers demanded ransom in return of the boat and releasing the fishermen. They feared that the robbers would come up with demand of more ransom one after one.
Ayub Ali, owner of FB Shah Mazidia, said “Sea robbers demanded huge amount of money over cell phone to get bake my trawl along with the abducted fishermen.”
He, however, did clarify how much money the robbers demanded to him.
The robbers may demand ransoms to the other boat owners, said Cox’s Bazar Fishing Boat Owners’ Association secretary general (GS) Abdul Khaleque adding, they will inform the authorities concerned in back and white.
The association is going to take necessary measures by calling a special meeting as the robbing in deep sea has increased suddenly, told the GS.
