Be alert to let flat to foreigners

DHAKA: Law enforcers have asked landlords and flat owners to be alert in letting flats to foreigners in the capital. 

Deputy Commissioner of Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) police Krishnapada Roy made the urge in a press briefing at city’s Mintoo road over the arrest of 31 foreigners Friday.

Krishnapada said they conducted several drives in 147 houses in Rampura, Gulshan, Uttara area early Friday getting allegations of some foreigners are involved in several crimes as murder, fraud and drug dealings.

The law enforcers detained 16 foreigners from Uttara area, 11 from Banasree area of Rampura and four from Gulshan area in night-long drives.

Among the detained foreigners 12 people came from Nigeria, three from Gambia, five from Uganda, four from Cameron, two from Ivory Cost and one each came from Togo, Mali, Senegal, Kenya and Mozambique. 

While replying a query the DC said the detainees came to Bangladesh with student and tourist visa. Police are look into the matter why they stay in Bangladesh after the expiry of the visa and their alleged involvement in crimes.

However, legal action will be taken against them after the investigation, he added.
