DHAKA: Detectives are running after the killers of Rajshahi University (RU) sociology teacher Dr AKM Shafiul Islam.

The state minister for home affairs Asaduzzaman Khan made the disclosure at Sunday noon while answering to the reporters at the secretariat in city.

The junior minister, at that time, added that the law enforcers, however, will hold the killers as soon as possible.

Miscreants, earlier on Saturday, chopped Professor Dr AKM Shafiul Islam to death in front of his residence in Chaddapai area of Rajshahi.

RU pro vice-chancellor professor Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan told banglanews that Shafiul, at that time, was on his way to home by a motorcycle.

Miscreants, somehow, intercepted his vehicle, indiscriminately stabbed on his neck and back with sharp weapons and fled the scene, leaving him inured critically, he added.

Fatally injured Shafiul was rushed to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) where he succumbed to his injuries.

However, Ansar-al-Islam has admitted the killing. This little known organization has taken the guilt within hours of Shafiul’s died.
