NEW YORK (USA): Bangladesh ambassador to the USA Mohammad Ziauddin met Democrat Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee at her Capitol Hill office in the USA.
This influential Congresswoman is a Congress member of Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security subcommittee and a ranking member of Transportation Security subcommittee.
The envoy informed her about Bangladesh Prime Minster Sheikh Hasina’s initiatives regarding women empowerment in Bangladesh.
He also talked about the incumbent government’s enactment of ‘National Women Policy 2011’ and ‘Domestic Violence Protection and Prevention Act 2014’ aiming to establish women’s rights in society.
Ziauddin also informed the lawmaker about the government programs on safe motherhood, monthly allowance to elderly and destitute women and providing loans for women employment.
He also highlighted the Bangladesh government is following the advices of the USA, EU and other development partners to ensure security for workers in country’s readymade garment sector.
The prosecutions of International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) in Bangladesh were also briefed to the Congresswoman.
Bangladesh government’s zero tolerance to terrorism was also included in the discussion.
However, Sheila Jackson Lee expressed her gratitude to the Bangladesh premier and hoped to meet the PM during her next US visit.
She also assured all sort of cooperation to Bangladesh.
Bangladesh embassy political counselor Nayem Uddin Ahmed was also present at the meeting.
