DHAKA: Chashi Nabanna Utsab, a 3-day festival highlighting the traditional cakes, which are usually made after harvesting new crops in Bangladesh, has begun on Thursday.
The festival started in the morning at city’s Ramna Batamul and will remain open from 7:00am to 8:00pm daily till November 22.
Square Food and Beverages is sponsoring the Chashi Nabanna Utsab while banglanews24.com and Dhaka FM are the media partners of the festival.
Some 35 stalls have been setup there to involve the urban people with the country’s centuries-old tradition.
The stalls are showcasing traditional cakes of Comilla, Brahmanbaria, Netrokona, Noakhali, Sonargaon, Mymensingh, Bikrampur and Dhaka with other regular cakes and sweets carrying cultural names and fames.
Visitors will be introduced with all the long-established cakes of the villages there apart from buying and eating on the spot.
Mehedi Hasan, the executive director of Showbiz Entertainment, the organizer of the Chashi Nabanna Utsab, told banglanews, after the opening, that though the festival will be inaugurated officially in the afternoon, few peoples have already visited the festival.
“Farmers from different remote areas and media personalities will attend the program which is to be held at 4:00pm,” he added.
The organizers will arrange cultural programs and display of traditional foods there.
“The programs will also include traditional puppet show, bioscope and merry-go-round. It will also include recitation of punthi, baul songs, snake charming and lathi khela.”
