Preserve Jagadish Chandra’s house: HC

DHAKA: The High Court on Sunday asked the authorities concerned to preserve the house of world-famous scientist Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose in Munshiganj district.

An HC bench comprising Justice Mainul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Mohammad Ashraful Kamal passed the order after the primary hearing of a writ filed on public interest.

The court also asked archeology department director general, Munshiganj deputy commissioner and Srinagar Thana Officer-in-Charge to take necessary steps by next seven days.

Earlier on November 23, Bangla daily Janakantha published a report on the poor condition of this world famous scientist’s house.

Later, the writ was filed on behalf of rights organization called Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB).

Advocate Manjil Morshed argued in favor of the writ petition.

He told banglanews that besides the order the court has also issued a rule in this regard.

The court, in the rule, has asked to know why the failure of preservation of this house will not be called illegal and why an order will not be made to preserver the house.

It has also asked to known why the archeology department will not issue a gazette notification to declare the house as an archeological site and a historical place as well.

Culture secretary, science and ICT secretary, archeological department director general, Munshiganj deputy commissioner and authorities concerned are asked to explain the rule by next two weeks.
