DHAKA: The High Court Wednesday granted anticipatory bail for six months to former BNP lawmaker Mosaddek Ali Falu in a case of “misappropriating” CI sheets sanctioned for distributing as relief among the poor.

An HC bench comprising justice Syed Dastagir Hossain and justice AKM Jahirul Haque came up with the order as Falu filed a bail petition appearing in person before the court.

The Anti-Corruption Commission filed the case with Ashulia thana against Falu on March 13, 2007, when there had been a massive anti-graft drive under state of emergency following the 1/11 changeover.

Making his plea for the bail, Ahsanul Karim, lawyer for Falu, said, “The law-enforcing agencies couldn’t arrest him because of stay order given on the case by the High Court. That’s why Falu couldn’t surrender before the lower court.”
