Magura farmer chopped dead

MAGURA: A farmer was chopped to death allegedly by his rivals over a land dispute at Raipur village under Mohammadpur upazila of the district early Wednesday.

The victim was identified as Alfu Sardar, 63, a resident of the village.

Victim’s elder son Shafiqul Sardar told banglanews that his father was sleeping at home; he awoke around 4:00am getting a call from somebody and went out home.

At the yard of their house, miscreants hacked his father with lethal weapons indiscriminately and fled the scene, killing him on the spot, Shafiqul added.

Babukhali police outpost In-Charge assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mizanur Rahman told banglanews that, on information, police rushed to the spot and sent the body to the district Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

Police and family sources said rivals might have killed Alfu over land disputes.

Process is underway to file a case in this connection, the ASI added.
