DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Tuesday handed down death penalty to three men for killing an electrician named Rubel, concealing his body and claming extortion in Old Dhaka.
Judge M Rezaul Islam of Fifth Special Judge Court passed the order in the morning.
The convicts also fined Tk 25,000 each, in default, they have to serve one year more rigorous imprisonment.
They are Rubel, 25, son of Abdur Monnan of Uttampur village, Rony Biswas, 24, son of Kabir Biswas of Deori area under Bakerganj Thana in Barisal and Roman, 24, son of Osman Gani of Kodalia Uttarpara area under Fulpur Thana in Mymensingh.
After pronouncing the verdict, the convicts were sent to the jail with sentence warrant.
The case statement said Rony, Roman and Rubel beheaded Rubel at the ground floor of Hotel Shah Kamal in old Dhaka on June 6, 2010.
Later, one of the convicts, Roman, demanded Tk 200,000 from the manager of Hotel Mim threatening him to be webbed in the case.
However, the manager informed police about the matter and the law enforcers nabbed Roman from the spot.
On information, the police recovered the body of Rubel from the hotel.
Deceased brother, Maran Mia filed a murder case with Sutrapur Thana.
However, the convicts gave confessional statement in the case.
