Bangladesh Consulate in NY observes ‘Int’l Migrants Day’

DHAKA: The Consulate General of Bangladesh in New York observed International Migrants Day on 24 December at the Conference Room of the Consulate. 

As part of the programme, a discussion meeting was held in which the discussants highlighted on the various aspects of the Day, said a Press Release issued by Bangladesh Consulate General in New York on Wednesday.

Dr AK Abdul Momen, Permanent Representative of Bangladesh and Ambassador to UN, in his speech as the Chief Guest, described the importance of the Day in the context of the global movement of people while highlighting on the role of the present government in protecting the interests of the migrants and the would-be migrants of Bangladesh.

In his welcome remarks, the Consul General highlighted on the role of the migrants of Bangladesh and touched on the various measures taken by the government for safe migration of the expatriate Bangladesh nationals, added the release, signed by Sayeda Jesmin Sultana Milky, First Secretary & HOC  of Consulate General of Bangladesh.

The theme of the event was “safe migration”.

M Shahedul Islam, Deputy Consul General, narrated the role of the Consulate General in New York in addressing the ever-increasing and multifarious needs of the Bangladesh diaspora within its jurisdiction.

The guests were served with traditional Bangladeshi cuisine.

M Shameem Ahsan, ndc, Consul General  presided over the event  which was participated by  the  Officials  of the  Consulate General, Permanent Mission of Bangladesh in New York and prominent members of the Bangladesh community, among others.
