BHOLA: A trawler carrying 60 passengers capsized in Meghna River after hitting a hidden shoal in Badshaw Miah Char under Tazmuddin upazila on Thursday noon.

Locals said some 60 people from Lalmohan upazila’s Gazaria friends club were on board and going for picnic at Manpura Char.

Lalmohan Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Jakir Hossain said they directed the Lalmohan police to investigate into the matter.

Though, it was not known whether the trawler was fishing boat and passenger-laden boat, he added.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Lalmohan Thana Akteruzzaman and OC Humayan Kabir of Tazumuddin Thana said the police forces rushed to the spot.
