DHAKA: BNP Standing Committee member Goyeshwar Chandra Roy was detained by Detective Branch (DB) of police and shown arrested in the clash at Bakshibazar in the city.
DB police sources said the BNP leader was picked-up by a team of DB police from city’s Siddheswari area at 6:30am Friday and then taken to its headquarters.
When contacted, Shahbagh thana officer-in-charge (investigation) M Habil Uddin told banglanews that Goyeshwar Chandra Roy was arrested in a case filed for arson attack, vandalism, creating obstruction in police duties in city’s Bakshibazar area on Wednesday.
The BNP leader will be produced before court on Friday afternoon, the OC added.
But, a source of DB police said police will seek 10-day remand for Goyeshwar.
Two cases were filed against BNP men over the Bakshibazar clash that left injured scores of people, including Netrokona-1 lawmaker Chhabi Biswas, during Zia Trusts graft case hearing of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
