DHAKA: Journalists and officials of Jamuna TV on Saturday observed a token hunger strike and staged sit-in demanding that the government allow the private television channel to broadcast its programmes.

The six-hour sit-in and hunger strike began on the National Press Club premises at about 11 am.

Speaking at the programme, the journalists said the government has breached its promise of making a “Digital Bangladesh” by canceling the allocation of frequency and stopping test transmission of Jamuna TV (JTV).

The dream of building a digital Bangladesh would not have to be materialized by shutting down the JTV, the most modern digital TV channel in the sub-continent, they said.

Leaders of BFUJ, DUJ and JTV journalists spoke at the programme.
