Clash with police leaves 15 injured, 9 held

Ex-State Minister Milon remanded

Chandpur: A Chandpur court Thursday granted one-day remand for interrogating former State Minister Ehsanul Haque Milon in a case of attempt to murder and arson attack.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Abdur Rahman granted the remand when police prayed for 10 days’ remand after producing Milon before the Judicial Magistrate court.  

Mojibur Rahman from Sachar of Kachua upazila filed the case against the BNP leader on charge of attempt to murder him and set fire to his house. Seven persons, including Milon, are accused in the case.

According to case statement, Milon along with his associates attacked the plaintiff at Sachar Bazar on September 14, 2001. Milon set fire to the house of the plaintiff located in Sachar area on October 3, 2001. Police applied for 10-day remand producing Milon before the court on May 20. The court had fixed June 3 for the remand hearing.

Leaders of BNP and it associate organizations formed a human chain and brought out a protest procession demanding Milon’s release during the court proceedings. A clash occurred between police and demonstrators that left 15 people injured.

Officer-in-Charge of Chandpur Model Thana Kazi Abdul Qaium said, ”Police detained nine activists of BNP and its associate organizations.”
