Eid-e-Miladunnabi being marked

DHAKA: The holy Eid-e-Miladunnabi, the day of birth and demise of the Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), is being marked on Sunday across the country as elsewhere in the Muslim World with due respect and religious fervor.

Various religious, socio-political and cultural organizations have chalked out the elaborative programs the city and elsewhere in the country, offering milad mahfil and Qurankhwani to mark the day.

Apart form this, different mosques, madrashas and various religious organizations in the capital and elsewhere across the country have organized milad mahfil on the occasion.

President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages on the occasion, greeting the countrymen and the Muslims across the world.

In his message, President Abdul Hamid said Allah sent Muhammad (SM) to the world as a blessing for the mankind.

Abdul Hamid said the ideals of the Prophet, including earning livelihood, helping the poor, showing respects to others, and establishing women’s dignity are distinctive and to be followed by all.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in her message, said the mankind got guidance for welfare of the human being.

"I wish peace and welfare of the country, nation and the Muslim ummah as well as all the people across the world," the premier said.

Jatiya Sangsad’s Opposition Leader Begum Rawshan Ershad and BNP chairperson Kahleda Zia also issued messages separately on the occasion.

Islamic Foundation arranged a fortnight-book fair at the east side of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque premises on the occasion. The fair is open for all from 9:00am to 8:00pm everyday from January 3 to January 17.

Other programs of the foundation include waz mahfil, seminar, Islamic calligraphy, poster and book exhibition on the Prophet (SM), qirat and hamd-naat competition and discussions.

National Press Club will organize a doa mahfil and discussion after Jumma prayer.

Awami League’s Dhaka City unit will hold a milad and doa mahfil at its party office on Bangabandhu Avenue at 4:00pm. Jatiyabadi Ulema Dal of BNP at the party headquarters in the city's Naya Paltan area at 11:00am.

On this day in 570 AD, the 12th of Rabiul Awal of the Hizri calendar, Prophet Muhammad was born in Makkah in Saudi Arabia with divine blessings and messages of peace for mankind. He passed away on the same day in 632 AD.

The day is a public holiday.
