DHAKA: Sylhet City unit of BNP called a dawn-to-dusk shutdown across the Sylhet district for Thursday while district Jubo Dal called dawn-to-dusk hartal in Noakhali protesting the killing an activist in a clash with police.

Convener committee member secretary of Sylhet unit Badruzzaman Selim announced the hartal protesting the confinement of their party chief Khaleda Zia and the arrest of its acting general secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir as well.

Selim, who announced the demonstration at 11:00am Wednesday from a rally followed by a procession, told banglanews that Thursday’s hartal will be observed from 6:00am to 6:00pm in protest against Khaleda Zia’s confinement and arrest of Mirza Fakhrul.

Earlier in the day, a doa mahfil was arranged at the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (R) for Khaleda Zia’s recovery from illness, he added.

Meanwhile, district Jubo Dal general secretary Kamakhha Chandra Das confirmed about the hartal in Noakhali district.
