NARSINGDI: At least three people, including mother and daughter, were killed and 15 others injured as an overloaded engine-run boat sank at Bibinsaher Ghat of Meghna River in the district Sadar on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Morsheda Begum, 25, and her daughter Subarna, 8, and Sufia Begum, 55.

Of the injured, some 10 were admitted to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital.

Witnesses said a Chardighal-bound engine-run-boat capsized as soon as the helmsmen started the journey.

Locals and boatmen from other boats helped rescuing people.

Passengers alleged that the boat sank due to overloading of wood and goods.
