DHAKA: Editors of several print and online news media proposed to solve the current political crisis in the country through dialogues.
They made the proposal in a meeting with five ministers at information ministry at secretariat in the city amid the ongoing political unrest on Sunday.
Chaired by Hasanul Haq Inu, the meeting was attended by commerce minister Tofail Ahmed, shipping minister Shahjahan Khan, water resource minister Anisul Islam Mahmud, state minister for labour and employment Mujibul Haque and PM’s information advisor Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury.
Moreover, Bangla daily Kaler Kantho Editor Imdadul Haq Milon, Daily Sun Editor Amir Hossain, The Daily Star Editor Mahfuz Anam, BSS Managing Director Abul Kalam Azad, Samakal Editor Golam Sarowar, New Age Editor Nurul Kabir, Sakaler Khobor Editor Mozammel Hossian, Jugantor Executive Editor Saiful Islam, Bhorer Kagoj Editor Shyamal Dutta and Alokita Bangladesh Editor Kazi Rafiqul Islam were among others present at the meeting.
After the meeting, Tofail Ahmed said, “We have talked to the country’s eminent people, who have been playing the duty of editorship.”
He added: “We have achieved the country through the liberation war. We expect that the country will be developed and people will live in peace.”
The commerce minister further said that they had discussed on the solution of the existing political unrest in the country.
After the meeting, Samakal Editor Golam Sarowar said that they had an open discussion on the current political situation.
“We want peace, no chaos. We want political solution,” he added, “We have proposed the solution through dialogue.”
Earlier on January 22, the information minister talked to the editors of satellite television channels as a part of his regular meeting with the media bosses.
