Sabotage derails train in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI: Two compartments including the engine of a train were derailed at Lalitnagar area under Godagri upazila early Saturday following the removal of fishplates from railway tracks.

Sources told banglanews that the incident took place around 12:30am at 500-metre away from Lalitnagar Rail Station.

However, none was reportedly injured in that accident.

Confirming the matter, Godagari Model Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) Farhad Hossain said that the 564 local-train which was going to Ishwardi from Chapainawabganj via Rajshahi met with the accident following the removal of fishplates from railway tracks.

“The slight damage was done to the train as it was running with only three compartments,” he added. “But, we have taken enough security measures for that area after the accident.”

Railway (West) superintendent Abdul Karim told banglanews that a relief train has already started recovering the damaged one.

“We are hopeful to restore the communication by afternoon,” he added.
