MYMENSINGH: A mugger was shot dead by police in Bhatikasar area of the town while he was snatching a mobile phone and cash from a businessman early Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Liton, 28.

Kotwali Model Thana Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Abdur Rashid confirmed the matter to banglanews.

He said police rushed to the spot while a gang of muggers attacked a businessman Abdul Wahab in Padri Mission Road of the area around 3:30am.

However, the muggers took away a mobile phone and Tk 2,800 from Wahab after stabbing him.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the snatchers attempted to attack them, who opened fire as a response of self protection leaving the snatcher Liton dead on the spot.

Mymensingh No 1 Police outpost in-charge Abdul Kadir Khan said they seized a mobile phone, two knives and some wallets.

Moreover, police also detained another mugger Sohel from the spot.
