LALMONIRHAT: An on-duty Ansar and village Defense Party (VDP) man was killed as a train crushed him in Tushbhander North Ghonesham area under Kaliganj upazila on Thursday.

The victim was identified as Bishwanath, 54, resident of Sreekhata village in the upazila.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Lalmonirhat Railway Thana Golam Mostafa confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Witnesses said banglanews that a Burimari-bound train ‘Korotoa Express’ crushed Bishwanath when he went out from his tent to check the rail line around 12:30am, leaving the Ansar man dead on the spot.

Being informed Lalmonirhat Railway Police rushed to the spot and recovered the body from the spot.

Later, the body was taken to the Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Kaliganj Upazila Ansar and VDP officer Entazul Haque told banglanews that the body will be handed over to the family in the afternoon.
