PM mourns death of Commander Abdur Rauf Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina

DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday expressed profound shock at the death of Commander Abdur Rauf, one of the prime accused in the historic Agartala Conspiracy Case.

Abdur Rauf died at Combined Military Hospital (CMH) at 5:00am on Friday at the age of 82.

In a message of condolence, the Prime Minister prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members, PM's Press Secretary AKM Shameem Chowdhuri confirmed the matter to media.

The infamous Agartala Conspiracy Case was filed against 35 people, including Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, in the January of 1968. Abdur Rauf was the 35th accused.

Later, the then Pakistan government was forced to withdraw the case on 22 February 1969 in the face of mass movement.
