ROSATOM to Supply Enriched Uranium for India

DHAKA: TVEL, a subsidiary of Russia’s State Nuclear Power Corporation- ROSATOM has signed a fresh contract with the Indian Department of Atomic Energy for the supply of enriched uranium fuel pellets. The fuel pellets will be used by Nuclear Fuel Center, a fuel assembly production plant in Hyderabad for the Tarapur Atomic Power Station. 

Felix Abolenin, Vice-President for commerce and international trade, Fedor Sokolov, Director Commercial TVEL and Shri Arun Srivastava, Member of the Indian Atomic Energy Commission were present among others at the signing ceremony.

A series of shipments is planned to be made in 2015. It may be mentioned here that TVEL has been supplying nuclear fuel components for the Indian boiling water reactor since 2000.

As part of cooperation with the Indian Department of Atomic Energy, TVEL also supplies nuclear fuel for the first and second power units of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant under a life-cycle contract. In addition, TVEL supplies nuclear fuel component for the Rajasthan Atomic Power Station (PHWR reactor).

Since beginning of 2014, TVEL signed export contract with several foreign countries for supply of nuclear fuel worth over USD 3 Billion. The company presently has an export portfolio of nuclear fuel components for next 10 years, which worth over USD 10 Billion. TVEL Fuel Company supplies nuclear fuel for 78 power reactors in 15 countries, research reactors in 9 countries, and nuclear-powered ships. Every sixth nuclear power reactor in the world runs on fuel produced by TVEL.
