Submit final report in Mahibur-Mujibur case on Apr 16: ICT

DHAKA: The international Crimes Tribunal-2 asked the prosecution to submit a final investigation report on April 16 over the allegations against two war crimes suspects of Habiganj.

They are Mahibur Rahman Boro Mia and his younger brother Majibur Rahman Angur Mia.

The two-member tribunal, led by Justice Md Mujibur Rahman, passed the order on Wednesday.

The tribunal also allowed investigators to quiz the suspected siblings at its safe home on March 16 for their alleged crimes against humanity during the Liberation War.

The jail authorities have been asked to take necessary steps for providing treatment to Mahibur and Mujibur and submit a report on their heath condition on April 16, in response to a plea of defense lawyer.

Earlier in the day, prosecutors Sultam AMahmud Simon and Rezia Sultana Chaman submitted progress report on investigation over the allegations against the duo.

Later, they also filed time petition seeking a month for submission of the final report and permission to interrogate the siblings at safe home.

On the other hand, defense lawyer Advocate Nazrul Islam filed bail petition and sought its directives to provide treatment to them in specialized hospital.

In the petition, the defense said Mahibur has been suffering from eye defeats while Majibur is high blood pressure.

The tribunal fixed April 16 for submission of final report and hearing on bail petition.

On February 10, prosecution filed a petition seeking its order to arrest the two brothers. After hearing, the tribunal issued arrest warrant angst them.

Hours after the arrest order, Habiganj detective branch of police arrested the two war crime suspects and later the tribunal sent them to jail on February 12.

Local sources said the duo formed a Razakar force in Nabiganj Thana of Habignaj and handed over freedom fighters to the Pakistani occupation force in 1971.

The two brothers were allegedly killed two freedom fighters Akal Mia and Rajob Ali. They also allegedly torched and looted the house of Maj Gen MA Rob, deputy commander of the pro-liberation forces.

Earlier in 2009, Akal Mia's wife Bhingraj Bibi filed a case against them with Habiganj judicial magistrate cognizance-4.

Later, the case was transferred to the International Crimes Tribunal.
